Dear World,
It is
a wealth we have and a bridge to those who are far away, of those who are on the
other side of the world.
︎
How to survive COVID-19 far away from home? I’m Fernando and I'm Mexican. I have lived in Slovenia for a year, in a small town in the northeast of this country with my daughter, wife and a dog. Thanks to technology, I have news about my family in Mexico and I can communicate with my father, mother and sister. However, to be even closer to them I work the land. For me, thinking about the land is a unique way of feeling everything.
At home, my six-year-old daughter does not understand exactly what COVID-19 is. She only knows that she can’t meet other people and that she can’t go to school. Nevertheless, this situation is a great opportunity to think about the land and the nature in its different forms of expression and everything it offers us for a living.
Working the garden and the vineyard in these times feeds our soul. It makes us understand the importance and the fortune of having a land to grow food. It is a wealth we have and a bridge to those who are far away, of those who are on the other side of the world.
Sincerely,
It is
a wealth we have and a bridge to those who are far away, of those who are on the

Thinking About Land
After living in a Mexican city with two million inhabitants for six years, I moved with my family back to a small Slovenian village, a place that witnessed my birth. Fernando, Sara and I exchanged traffic, noise and crowds for silence, greenness and sometimes boredom. We decided to seize the opportunity and work the land we had; we would grow our own food.
The end of winter coincided with the virus outbreak in Europe. Therefore, when the lockdown slowed down the pace of life of millions of people, we changed to higher gear. For many quarantine meant staying at home, for us it meant working outside. The land resulted to be our salvation. When I talked to Fernando about how and where to portray him for the project, we never doubted for a second. It had to be among the vines and the soil.
