Dear World,

The confinement has allowed me to rediscover the things from the beginning, the essential things of life.

When I think about the confinement, I think about our long walks with First, my dog.

In France, during the national “confinement” to prevent the spread of COVID-19, every household is allowed to go on a walk for one hour a day with their pet.

“First!” is the word I have to shout over and over when I call him back to me during our walks in the trails.

I think about how he’s lost weight, how he’s so happy, how he’s ten years old and getting old. He’s regaining his former silhouette. It’s as if he’s rediscovered his joie de vivre through being able to go on long walks with his owners, and you can tell that he’s excited all day in anticipation of ourwalk.

The confinement has allowed me to rediscover the things from the beginning, the essential things of life. All the things we are finding again that we had lost because we were running after the clock. And for me, First is the symbol of confinement.

We get to live the present moment, as if we were meditating. And to think of only the present. To only have the word “First!” in my mouth. It allows me to hold my girlfriend’s hand for an hour.

Sincerely,

First!
