Dear World,

My job here is to try very hard not to let fear creep into their dreams, as they do mine.

I made this for my daughters so that one day they may look back and understand better the ‘small stage’ we created, at home, whilst in Covid lock down. We went into isolation a little earlier as one of us had a lung infection and was deemed at higher risk of getting the virus.

Outside our home, the news is always bad and the enormity of the problem unfathomable but for the girls, their little worlds are small, for the most part uncomplicated and beautiful. My job here is to try very hard not to let fear creep into their dreams, as they do mine.

A home is of our own making… at the moment ours is a small stage, with play at the heart of it. When talking about this project with the girls, we worked out that our family language is in fact ‘Play’. In all it’s wonderful everyday glory, silly, laughter inducing playful-ness, dramatic overreaction, invented words, funny noises, crazy tiktok dances, silly games.

We are embracing all of it
and quite frankly
it’s getting us through.

Sincerely,

A Small Stage Play
